Will Mark Williams-Thomas be next to be Carter-Rucked for not sticking to the McCanns narrative as he disses their theory in front of millions of viewers?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Mark Williams-Thomas, the ex detective constable and self-styled investigative journalist, has just dissed the McCanns 'jemmied shutters', 'whooshing curtains' theory by announcing on ITV's 'This Morning' in front of millions of viewers that his theory is that Madeleine woke and wandered.

Where does that now leave Kate's jemmied shutters and her whooshing curtains that she proudly demonstrated on Oprah Winfrey's show?

Has Mark Williams-Thomas just told millions of people he also doesn't believe their faked abduction story, even though his own theory is just as fake, and coming from an ex copper who conveniently fails to mention the alerts by the two British Blood and Cadaver Police dogs who alerted to 17 locations only associated with the McCanns, he really should know better.

That's the problem, though, when everyone tells lies - no one knows what can, and can't, be said to save themselves tripping up.

Is he next in line to be Carter-Rucked for not sticking to the McCann narrative?

I notice the McCanns, for some reason, didn't have the courage to show up today even though they were billed to appear at 11.45am.

A much-expected update as the McCanns dismiss MWT's theory once they realised he dismissed their jemmied shutters and whooshing curtains theory:   Kate and Gerry McCann "baffled" after TV detective unveils "astonishing new theory" about Madeleine's disappearance on This Morning  http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/kate-gerry-mccann-baffled-after-9863404

The parents of Madeleine McCann are “baffled” by an investigative journalist's new theory about how the youngster vanished.
Mark Williams-Thomas, a former policeman, appeared on ITV's This Morning to voice his “astonishing new theory” about Maddie’s disappearance.
The couple have always insisted their three-year-old daughter was snatched from a Portuguese holiday flat while they were dining in a nearby tapas bar, either by a sex fiend or during a botched burglary.
But TV detective Mr Williams-Thomas believes the unsettled youngster walked out of the unlocked apartment searching for her parents in the poolside restaurant.
The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell hit back today, saying: “This is pure speculation and, as such, Kate and Gerry will not be dignifying it with any sort of comment whatsoever.”

A source close to the couple added: “It’s baffling a television programme had him on as an authority on the Madeleine case.
"He’s re-invented himself as a criminologist but when did he become an expert on this high-profile case? Never.”
The friend added: “He said he had received a statement from the McCanns saying they were pleased there was an ongoing investigation which they hoped would unearth some news but they haven’t been in contact with him, neither has their spokesperson.
“It seems he was rehashing a years-old statement that was circulated to all the media.”
Mr Williams-Thomas revealed his theory about that fateful night in Praia da Luz in May 2007 when he appeared on the show as part of a new series on unsolved crimes.

Speaking to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, he echoed previously reported lines about Maddie’s asking her mum and dad “where were you last night?” and her twin siblings waking up on previous nights.
He then stated: “The concern I have, I believe she woke up and went looking for them, she left the apartment and came out, we already know the patio door was insecure.”
The McCann source said: “With no disrespect to this investigative reporter, he is forever trying to latch himself onto the Maddie case. He’s said this all before and he once stood outside Apartment 5A reporting his same old belief.

“But they’re (Kate and Gerry) not going to fall out with him over this. It’s all based on speculation and it’s a free country and they’ve got enough to be dealing with.”
Former GP Kate and heart doctor Gerry, both 48, of Rothley, Leics, believe Maddie could still be alive and have never given up hope of finding her. They face the heart-breaking 10th anniversary of her disappearance in 10 weeks. She would now be aged 13.
Detectives have explored dozens of theories about Madeleine's disappearance from being snatched by paedophiles and murdered during a botched burglary.

Despite nearly 9,000 potential sightings across the globe police have struggled to unearth any new clues.
This is potentially Operation Grange’s final year of searching and they are concentrating solely on the fact she was sold by child traffickers – her parents’ and their first team of private investigators’ initial hunch – and could still be alive.
Reports following her kidnap suggested she could have been smuggled to Belgium or Morocco in North Africa.
Forensic investigations into Maddie’s disappearance just nine days before her fourth birthday were concluded last year.
So far the inquiry, launched in May 2011 on orders of then Prime Minister David Cameron , has cost more than £12 million with topped-up funds set to run out at the end of March.

Kate and Gerry McCann and what the search for Madeleine really looked like

Because they were incredibly busy, really.
.

Kate and Gerry McCann and the legacy of death, fraud, lies and deceit they are leaving for Sean and Amelie McCann

Kate and Gerry, please stop hampering the search for Madeleine by frivolously spending her fraudulent Fund money to protect your faked abduction story and too-late-to-repair reputation.

Now is the time to stop thinking about yourselves for once and put the needs of the twins first. Surely you must realise you are leaving them, and their future children, an horrific legacy of lies and deceit that will only cause them immense distress and shame once they're old enough to appreciate just what you've done to Madeleine, Brenda, Gonçalo, and Tony.

Do you not care that some deranged people like Stephen Birch are already targetting them?

Isn't it enough that you have committed some of the worst crimes against a child in British history without risking problems for your remaining children?

The only reputation you've earned over the past two years is self-confessed negligent so-called parents who is involved in the concealment of your daughter's corpse, staging an abduction, hounding a pensioner to her death, trying to imprison another pensioner for quoting from the official Portuguese Police files, obtaining money under false pretences and perverting the course of justice.

What a terrible legacy you're leaving for Sean and Amelie.

McCann
Kate and Gerry McCann

Kate and Gerry McCann are fighting a decision by a Portuguese court to reverse their 2015 libel win against a former police chief over his claims about their daughter's disappearance, according to the Independent.
Reports say that the couple's lawyers have confirmed they will use money from the "Find Madeleine" fund to attempt to overturn the ruling and challenge claims by ex-detective Goncalo Amaral that they faked their daughter's abduction.

Madeleine went missing from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.
In 2015 the couple launched a successful libel action case against Amaral's 2008 book. "The Truth of the Lie", in which he alleged that Madeleine, three, had died at their holiday flat and they had faked her kidnapping to cover up the tragedy.

But this was overturned by a lower court in April the following year, leaving them with potentially vast legal costs and the possibility of being sued by Mr Amaral.

Last month Portugal's Supreme Court rejected the McCann's libel appeal over the book.

The McCanns fresh legal bid is reportedly based on comments made by the judges in the 76-page ruling, which stated the decision "was determined by the fact that public prosecutors hadn't managed to obtain sufficient evidence of the crimes by the appellants". (Because the McCanns refused to cooperate with the investigation and didn't ask for the investigation to remain open!)

Both were at one stage official suspects for a day (not true) in July 2008 following the adduction.

Judges have said the archiving of the criminal case did not equate to the McCanns being cleared of criminal responsibility.

"In truth, that ruling was not made in virtue of Portugal's Public Prosecution Service having acquired the conviction that the appellants hadn't committed a crime," they wrote.

"Even the archive ruling raises serious concerns relating to the truth of the allegation that Madeleine was kidnapped."

They also found Mr Amaral's book had "no defamatory intention" behind it.

"Our opinion is that rather than an injurious animus, the intention was informative and defensive," they said.
In a statement after the ruling, The McCanns said: "What we have been told by our lawyers is obviously extremely disappointing.

"We will of course be discussing the implications of the Supreme Court ruling with our lawyers in due course."

Nature.com: The dark side of social media - and the hounding to death of Brenda Leyland by the McCann family

Brenda Leyland hounded to death by McCann 'troll' supporters and Martin Brunt

A very biased pro-McCann article that makes no mention at all of how the McCann family and their supporters hounded Brenda Leyland to her death.

The dark side of social media

Psychologists find that Internet trolls seem impervious to any efforts to change their behaviour.

Some scientists peer into active volcanoes and try to read rocks. Others sift signals from space or analyse how animals behave. And then there are the cyber-ethnographers, who dedicate their careers to studying the way that people behave online. Some of these digital researchers must surely envy the ‘peaceful’ life of a volcanologist, for, as geologists like to say, one cannot argue with a rock.
Arguments rule the online world — witness the attention given this week to a Twitter row between Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling and journalist Piers Morgan. And although sometimes amusing, it doesn’t take much for online banter to slip towards insults, harassment and worse. That is the grim domain of the Internet troll, and it’s this murky online environment that brave cyber-ethnographers are now trying to study.
This May, it will be a full ten years since the abduction of three-year-old Madeleine McCann from her family’s holiday villa in Portugal and the worldwide coverage that followed. Yet, a decade later, people on the Internet still swap 100 messages or so an hour about the case. Many of these accuse and insult her traumatized parents, celebrating their daughter’s disappearance and gloating over their misery.

Such people are among the basest and most antisocial Internet trolls, and in a paper in Computers in Human Behaviour, psychologists describe how they tried to engage with this troll community, to study their attitudes and behaviour, and to work out what makes them tick (J. Synnott et al. Comput. Hum. Behav. 71, 70–78; 2017). Their research put them in the cross-hairs for several weeks, and the trolls did not disappoint. Once the goal of their study was exposed by others in the anti-McCann community, “you need better English to do a PHD luv!” was among the more polite messages sent in response to questions from “the psychology student studying trolls”.

Things got heated when the scientists tried to introduce some science into the debate. Much of the suspicion towards the McCann family was generated by a claim from the Portuguese police that sniffer dogs had found evidence of a cadaver in their holiday apartment (no charges were brought). When one of the psychologists posted a reference to an academic paper showing that such dogs made frequent mistakes in hot weather, and invited discussion, the trolls were more interested in insults and attacks on the researcher’s motive, labelling them a “shill” and blocking them when they tried to steer conversations back to the findings.

Previous research on trolls has identified key phrases that act as calling cards and draw activity. In this study, the word ‘shill’ — meaning that the researcher was paid by the McCann family to protect its reputation — was a red rag, and led to more and more trolls circling the discussion and piling in.

What can we learn from the study? One powerful theme of the anti-McCann messages is motherhood — and how the trolls argue that they would have behaved differently, both before and after the abduction. Psychologists call this disassociation, and it could arise from an irrational belief that parents who explicitly distance themselves from the plight of the McCann family somehow keep their own children safer. But there were much nastier motives on show, too: although most of the trolls argued that they were fighting for justice, the researchers conclude that this was thin cover for being able to hurl insults anonymously.

There are two other notable points. First, most of the abusive and offensive messages sent and received were against the rules of the social-media provider, yet no action was taken. And second, to ‘not feed the trolls’ has little impact. They are cultural scavengers who feast on alternative facts and false news already in the system, and thrive on condemnation. Rocks are so much easier to deal with.

Madeleine McCann: Have her parents been ‘cleared’ of any involvement in her disappearance’?

Madeleine McCann: Have her parents been ‘cleared’ of any involvement in her disappearance’?

by Felicity Hathaway - August 2013

The purpose of this short article, intended mainly to those who are maybe ‘newcomers’ to the details surrounding Madeleine McCann’s reported disappearance, is to answer the question: Have Gerry & Kate McCann  been ‘cleared’ - formally or otherwise - of any involvement in the disappearance, from the Portuguese holiday resort of Praia da Luz, of their daughter?

If, for example, you consult Wikipedia’s article on Madeleine McCann, it states this: “In July 2008, the McCanns were cleared by the Portuguese Attorney-General”. Is this really true?

Background

On Thursday 3 May 2007, Kate McCann reported Madeleine as missing. She was quite clear from the outset that she ‘knew’ Madeleine had been abducted. Thus began the world’s biggest-ever search for a child claimed to be missing. Hundreds of Portuguese police searched for Madeleine and then formally investigated her disappearance. There were thousands of reported ‘sightings’ of Madeleine in dozens of countries; all false.

Things changed in August 2007. Some of Britain’s top police officers, based at the National Police Intelligence Agency, including Britain’s top criminal profiler, Lee Rainbow, advised Portuguese detectives that they should investigate the possible involvement of the McCanns in Madeleine’s disappearance. The Portuguese police called in internationally-renowned British police dog handler Martin Grime to examine locations in Praia da Luz, including the McCanns’ apartment and their hired car.

His two dogs - a cadaver dog and a bloodhound - found the smell of a human corpse in nine separate locations connected to the McCanns, but nowhere else. These included three locations in their apartment, two in their hired car, and two on Kate McCann’s clothes. Blood and body fluids which could have been from Madeleine McCann were found in some of the same locations (see below).

On 7 September 2007, the investigation co-ordinator, Dr Gonçalo Amaral, pulled the McCanns in for questioning, and made them arguidos, that is, formal suspects - on suspicion of hiding Madeleine’s body. While Gerry McCann answered police questions, Kate refused to answer any, replying ‘no comment’. She had every legal right to do so, but it was strange behaviour for someone allegedly looking for her missing daughter.

The McCanns described the suspicions against them as ‘ludicrous’ and ‘unhelpful’. Gerry McCann later went on to claim that police sniffer dogs were ‘notoriously unreliable’ - despite their increasing use by police forces across the world, and their increasing reliability and precision in detecting odours of a variety of materials, from bodies to drugs, explosives and even certain medical conditions.

On 2 October 2007, Dr Amaral was removed from the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance. The Portuguese judicial authorities then appointed a new investigation co-ordinator. He reported to the District Attorney (not the Attorney-General as stated on Wikipedia) for that region of Portugal, Jose de Magalhaes e Menezes. He issued a report on the investigation, signed off by Deputy Attorney-General Joao Melchior Gomes, which was made public in July 2008. The McCanns rely on this report for their claim that they were ‘cleared’. So let’s now examine in more detail the contents of his ruling.

The District Attorney’s ruling of July 2008 in the Madeleine McCann case

The quotation that the McCanns rely on is this, found on page 4,649 of the file of police documents in the case released to the public later that year:

“I order…the filing of the papers concerning the suspects Gerald Patrick McCann and Kate Marie Healy [the surname then used by Dr Kate McCann], as there is no evidence that they committed any crime defined by Article 277.1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure”.

But let us now look at some of the other statements in the Attorney-General’s report.

The contents of the District Attorney’s report

The District Attorney nowhere says the McCanns have been ‘cleared’.

In fact, on page 4648, he declares: “…it must be clearly understood that this is not equivalent to final and irreversible closure of the enquiry”.

On page 4647 of the same report, we also read these words:

“No evidence was obtained which would enable the average person…to arrive at a clear and honest conclusion as to how the child was taken from the apartment (dead or alive, and if dead whether by negligent or wilful manslaughter)”. On the same page, the District Attorney adds: We do not have any grounds whatsoever for saying, with the necessary degree of certainty, exactly what crime(s) may have been committed against Madeleine McCann”.

The District Attorney, earlier in his report (page 4605), summarises the lack of evidence that Madeleine was abducted as follows: The possibility of abduction was exhaustively investigated. No ransom was ever requested, nor were there any sufficiently consistent clues found to support this theory”.

Later in his report he notes: (page 4643, also pages 4597-8) “Whilst it is an undeniable fact that Madeleine disappeared from Apartment 5A in the Ocean Club, the manner and circumstances in which it happened are unclear, despite the huge number of investigations, and the potential range of crimes suggested. The potential range of crimes suggested throughout the enquiry - including abduction for sexual purposes or other uses and accidental death and hiding of the body - still stands”.

Contradictions

The District Attorney’s report is clearly unhappy with the many contradictions as between the different witness statements of the McCanns and their friends. On page 4597 of his report, for example he says:

“All members of the group including the McCanns were questioned exhaustively several times in order to compile as many facts as possible to help get at the truth. The witnesses’ statements revealed important details which were not entirely understood and coherent”. Later (page 4636), he emphasised this point again: “There were certain points in the statements and witnesses which, apparently at least, were contradictory or lacked physical support”. He went on to list five important contradictions, which can be summarised as follows:
  1. Relating to the claim by the McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner that she had walked up a lane between the Ocean Club and the apartment at around 9.15pm on the night Madeleine was reported missing
  2. Relating to how the shutters and window of the children’s bedroom were found open with no sign of a break-in
  3. Relating to doubts about how many times the McCanns and their friends checked on their children that night
  4. Relating to multiple contradictions between the evidence of Kate McCann and the McCanns’ friend David Payne about an alleged meeting between them at around 6,30pm on the evening Madeleine was reported missing
  5. Relating to the claims by Jane Tanner that she really saw someone walking with a child near the McCanns;’ apartment at around 9.15pm that evening.

The refusal of the McCanns and all their friends to take part in a reconstruction of the events of 3 May 2007

In order to get at the truth about what really happened on the day Madeleine was reported missing, the Portuguese police wanted to bring the McCanns and their friends back to Portugal for a reconstruction. They all refused to attend. The District Attorney says (page 4597):

“Despite every effort by the Judiciary Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, this was not possible”.

Almost in despair, towards the end of his report, he writes (page 4638):

“Although the Portuguese authorities did everything to facilitate their journey to Portugal, for reasons unknown, and after clarifying the many questions they raised about the need for the journey, they decided not to attend. The people most prejudiced were the McCanns themselves, who lost the opportunity to prove what they had always protested, their innocence. It also hindered the investigation because the above facts remained unexplained”.

The evidence of two British cadaver dogs

Several pages of the District Attorney’s report deal with the findings of an internationally renowned British police dog handler, Martin Grime. He was called in on the advice of the top ‘criminal profiler’ in the National Police Intelligence Agency, Lee Rainbow, and another senior British police officer, Mark Harrison. He took with him to Portugal two so-called ‘cadaver dogs’, one, Eddie, trained to alert only to the scent of a human corpse, and Keela, trained to alert to blood. On pages 4628-9 of his report, the District Attorney states that:

“The results of the search with these dogs, filmed and on file, were as follows:

Eddie ‘marked’ the following areas where he detected the odour of a human corpse:

  1. Area near wardrobe in McCanns’ bedroom in their holiday apartment
  2. Area near window of the lounge of the McCanns’ apartment
  3. An area in the garden below the veranda
  4. In a wardrobe containing the pink soft toy ‘Cuddle Cat’ at the villa rented by the McCanns after they left their apartment
  5. An item of clothing belonging to Kate McCann
  6. Another item of clothing belonging to Kate McCann
  7. A T-shirt of one of the children
  8. An area below the driver’s door of the Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns
  9. The key of the vehicle (which police had hidden in a firefighting sandbox)

Additionally, Keela, the ‘blood’ dog, alerted to human blood in all these places which were also ‘marked’ by Eddie:

  1. In the same place in the lounge in the apartment
  2. Below the tiles in the lounge, after the tiles had been taken up
  3. The bottom of the left curtain below the window in the lounge
  4. The bottom right-hand side of the boot of the Renault Scenic
  5. The storage pocket in the driver’s door, which contained the driver’s key
  6. The driver’s key (again, when it was hidden in a firefighting sandbox)”

The District Attorney added these three significant comments:

a)    “The work of these dogs can be appreciated much better on film” (page 4629)

b)    “These [particular] dogs have been used successfully many times by Scotland Yard and the FBI” (page 4630), and

c)    “Scientist Dr John Lowe, from the British Forensic Science Service, Birmingham, says that the [police] normally accept the word of the handler” (page 4630).

[ NOTE: There are many YouTube videos of the cadaver dogs alerting to the odours of a human corpse and blood in the McCanns’ holiday apartment, on some of their clothes, and in their hired car. Here are some links:

Towards the end of his report, the District Attorney refers again to the alerts of the two dogs, and to the other evidence in the case, and writes this (page 4635):

“The fact that the parents were the last people known to have been with Madeleine, alive and in a known place, particularly with the possibility of a body having been in the apartment and in the vehicle used by the parents…meant they had to be placed under suspicion. The parents had no plausible explanation for these facts. Faced with the evidence produced by the dogs and the laboratories, they had to be named as suspects…”

It should be clear from these many quotations from the District Attorney’s report - the very report that the McCanns rely on to claim that they have been ‘cleared’ - that the report does not clear them. On the contrary, as can be seen, even in this District Attorney’s final report, there remain many grounds for suspecting the McCanns of active involvement in the disappearance of their daughter. The original investigation co-ordinator, Dr Amaral, commented: "This is not a declaration of innocence".

An article in the Portuguese newspaper in July 2008 pointed out that: “The case will remain classed by the appointed prosecutor, Magalhães e Menezes, as one of possible homicide and hiding a body. Although the McCanns will no longer be formal ‘suspects’, archiving the case does not remove the Police’s suspicions against the couple”.

What other indications are there that we should not treat the McCanns as ‘cleared’?

In this short article, we don’t have the space to deal with the actual evidence that suggests that the McCanns were involved in their daughter’s disappearance. All we will do is simply point to the simplest ways for people to explore this issue further. Here are a few suggestions for you to consider:

  1. Read the book on the case, ‘The Truth of the Lie’, by the original co-ordinator of the investigation to Madeleine’s disappearance, Dr Goncalo Amaral. Published in Portuguese in 2008, it gives a first-hand account of his investigation and the evidence he found. Translated and published in nine European languages already, an English translation may be read online here:

  1. Watch the documentary for Portuguese TV made by Dr Amaral about the Madeleine McCann case. Seen by millions already, it summarises the evidence in his book. Watch it on YouTube, complete with English subtitles, here:

It’s in 6 parts of 10 minutes each.

  1. Read the hard-hitting interim report of Inspector Tavares de Almeida, filed on 10 September 2007, three days after the McCanns were made suspects. It explains in clear terms all the evidence that led to them being pulled in for questioning and made formal suspects. You can read it online (and print off a copy) here:

  1. Research the case using the main internet ‘library’ and archive on the case, at:

  1. Discuss the case online at the world’s main internet information and chat forum on the case: ‘The Complete Mystery of Madeleine McCann’, at:

There’s also a useful library of research articles there.

There’s lots more on the internet. The above are just ‘tasters’ to get you started.

What others have said on whether or not the McCanns have been ‘cleared’

Many current and former police officers, other experts and writers continue to cast serious doubt on the McCanns’ version of events. Here are just a few quotations from them:

Moite Flores, former police inspector and now political commentator in Portugal: “The only thing proven was that there was no abduction. I have no doubt that the child died”
Lee Rainbow, Britain’s top criminal profiler: “Madeleine's father was the last one to see her alive. The family is a lead that should be followed. Contradictions in Gerald McCann's statements might lead us to suspect a homicide”.

Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police (2007): “While both or one of [the McCanns] may be innocent, there is no clear evidence that eliminates them from involvement in Madeleine's disappearance”.

Former top British detective, John Stalker: “My gut instinct is that some big secret is probably being covered up”.

Ricardo Paiva, one of the chief detectives on the original investigation, told a Lisbon court in January 2010: “I share Gonçalo Amaral’s statement in the book. Maddie died, probably in a tragic accident, and all indications point towards the parents hiding the body”.
Director of the Portuguese National Counter-Terrorism Unit, Luís Neves: “Hiding a body and accidental death are possibilities”.

by Felicity Hathaway, August 2013

Sunday People tracked Mr Amaral down to a cafe north of Lisbon, where he was pictured drinking beer and smoking in the sunshine.

It's absolutely disgusting how the media "track down" an innocent man only to report that he's "sipping beer and smoking in the sunshine" to make a news report for the criminal McCanns who concealed the corpse of their own daughter, faked her abduction and conned kind-hearted people out of millions of pounds so they could live a celebrity life-style.

And the McCanns still want YOUR money so they can pay their mortgage, buy new cars, pay for an extension on their house, buy another property, but worst of all they use YOUR 'find Madeleine' donations to pay legal bills to silence people who question them, including the Portuguese Police officer who they forced to get divorced, breaking up his family with small children, so they could seize his assets and pension, forcing him to become homeless. After eight long years the Police officer won the court case, so his family life was ruined for no good reason. And why? Because he wrote a book based on the official Police investigation, a book that was based on the Official Police files that were released into the public domain anyway. The McCanns wanted the book banned in the UK, they didn't want it printed in English.

Have the McCanns ever searched for Madeleine? No.

The problem the mccanns have with their alleged attempt to have the Supreme Court verdict overturned is one of their own making

Lawyer confirmed couple are fighting a court judgment which could cost them hundreds of thousands and wipe out the “Find Madeleine” fund

McCanns launch new court battle against cop's claims they faked Maddie abduction amid fears his case could leave search fund broke

But the trustees / Directors of the "Fund" said a long time ago that it could NOT be used for legal expenses ! Ester McVey (who then became a short lived MP) resigned very shortly after saying this in public . . .

According to the latest accounts filed last month the couple’s Find Madeleine fund has just £200,000 left after half a million was placed in investments. Experts say legal fees and a possible pay-out to Amaral would easily dwarf this sum, leaving no cash left to continue the couple’s efforts to find their daughter.

"placed in investments . . .? Who authorised this ? Where is it NOW ? Who has control ? And what "efforts" have they made to find their daughter ?

Amaral was relaxing this week in the Olivais region in the north of the capital Lisbon. A local who spotted Amaral dining told the Sunday People: “He rarely mentions it. We know who he is – everybody does.”

A shopkeeper added: “He comes to the newsagents and then goes to one of the restaurants here for lunch.”

Roadsweeper Enrique Gonzalez said: “He is popular with all of the police officers who live and work around here.

“He comes and talks about the old times.”

Judges from the Portuguese Supreme Court also ruled against the couple in a legal battle with a police officer who led the hunt for their daughter
But he fought the case and Portugal’s Supreme Court sided with him.
However, it has emerged today that the couple have lodged a complaint with the Supreme Court.
When asked if she had lodged a formal complaint against the Supreme Court ruling, the McCann's Portuguese lawyer Isabel Duarte confirmed today: “We delivered it.”
