Jersey children's home: "Nobody came": A survivor's harrowing account

Book Description

A harrowing account by one of the survivors of the Haut de la Garenne children's home Robbie was born in Jersey and when he was five years old his mother placed him and his siblings in care. They were collected from their home by the police. It was the same day that the children had witnessed their father's suicide attempt by hanging. The children were separated; Robbie and his younger brother were taken to The Sacre Coeur, an orphanage for children under twelve, while their elder brother was placed in Haut de la Garenne. Robbie and his three year old brother were bewildered and frightened by their surroundings. Their world as they had known it had disintegrated in just a matter of a few hours. They had sobbed as their eldest brother was taken away from them; they had never been apart before. Sacre Coeur, run by nuns, was a place where unimaginable abuse was committed against defenceless small children. The nuns gave them no explanation. Just gave them their scratchy uniforms and showed them their dormitory. They had joined the tribe of lost boys; the ones who no one cared about. The two boys were eventually transferred to Haut de la Garenne, a place where sick twisted minds had devised even more tortuous methods of sexually abusing the helpless. There were suicides there. And of course there were the children who simply disappeared. Gone somewhere better Robbie was told. After all in a children's home there was a lot of coming and going. Today Robbie holds down a full time job and looks after his brother who he has loved and cared for since they were those little frightened boys. He wonders what happened to his friends who disappeared.

Kerching! Kate and Gerry McCann continue to be rewarded for child neglect

McCann vs "The Evening Standard."

The British newspaper, "The Evening Standard," has just swelled the already long list of media in the UK who have been obliged to offer their apologies to Madeleine McCann's parents (for systematically neglecting their three young children until one went missing for nearly two years).

The announcement of this about-face by, "The Evening Standard," was made on the same day as Maddie's father told the Portuguese media that he wished to, "move forward and not back,"and that he had no intention of taking legal action against the media. To the Portuguese journalists Gerry McCann stated that he wished to, "make totally clear that what happened in the past, was finished," claiming, according to him, to focus, "on what could be done to continue the search."

"That's our priority and that has always been. However, these things (possible legal actions) are simply not important at this time," Gerry Mccann stated.

In spite of Madeleine McCann's father's statements, that the couple were not concerned with possible legal action against the media, the British newspaper was obliged to make, "a substantial donation," to the fund created after Maddie's disappearance, and to, "publish announcements in foreign editions of another newspaper in our group, the Daily Mail, requesting information which might lead to finding Madeleine."

In its online edition, the newspaper, "The Evening Standard," writes that during the last months of 2007, "like a large part of the media," it published various articles which, "could be understood as suggesting that Kate and Gerry McCann might be involved in Madeleine's disappearance."

"We regret this fact and we wish to clarify, to avoid any doubt, that we totally accept that there is no proof to suggest that Kate and Gerry were involved in their daughter's disappearance," writes the newspaper.

An editorial source at the daily, contacted by SMM, confirmed that this announcement is the result of an agreement between the publication and lawyers for the couple in order to avoid a protracted action in the courts where, "given the McCanns' enormous political and legal support, there would be very little chance of success." The same source further states that this announcement, "has changed nothing of the view various journalists have about the case and the possible responsibility of the couple," but that in future, "it will be impossible to publish a single line that might implicate the couple."

In its online edition, the Evening Standard further writes that there, "is no evidence that Madeleine has come to any harm," thus ignoring all the evidence, and honest logic of this kind of case, that indicates that the little British girl will be dead.

Ex-KGB at the head of the Evening Standard.
In the next few days, the millionaire and former KGB agent, Alexandre Lebedev, could become the new owner of the Evening Standard, which could see a hypothetical change in the editorial policy of the newspaper. At least, this is what many journalists are expecting, unhappy with the direction followed by the newspaper and worried about its financial situation.

If the sale is confirmed, the former spy will be the first Russian to become majority owner of a major British newspaper: according to the terms of the sale agreement, Lebedev will hold 76% of the newspaper, the remaining 24% remaining the property of the Daily Mirror & General Trust, the current owner.

This is not the first time a major English daily has become the property of foreigners. An Australian bought The Times, The Sun and the News of The World, and a Canadian had, at one time, been the owner of The Telegraph.

Fit for a King: HRH Gerry McCann uses Maddie fund to stay in luxury hotel

by Sónia Trigueirão

Madeleine’s father and the English lawyer who accompanied him on the visit to Portugal, on Tuesday, were lodged at the D. Pedro Palace, a five-star hotel and one of the most luxurious ones in Lisbon. Everything, of course, financed by the ‘Find Madeleine’ Fund.

As far as CM was able to establish, one night at the D. Pedro, in a single room, may cost between 214 and 254 euros. This means that Gerry and the lawyer spent, at least, more than 400 euros for one night.

According to Clarence Mitchell, Madeleine’s parents’ spokesman, Gerry stayed in a single room and the hotel was chosen not for being five-star, but merely because it is located close to lawyer Rogério Alves’ office and because it is discrete. ‘We didn’t want to transform Gerry’s visit into a media show’.

Concerning the fact that the Fund payed for this, Clarence merely recalled the purpose for which it was created ‘This type of travel obviously fits into the search for Madeleine which is the Fund’s purpose. That was what it was created for and Madeleine’s parents will never use it for anything else apart from that’, he stated.

Beyond that, Mitchell guarantees that the fund to search for the child still has money: ‘We have 800 thousand pounds which are 880.170,36 euros. We don’t have money problems. People continue to help us’. The Fund, which was created in 2007, shortly after Madeleine disappeared from the resort at Praia da Luz, had two million euros at some point in time.

Details

Attorney General – The Attorney General’s Office informed yesterday that the Madeleine process will only be reopened with ‘new, credible and relevant facts’. This is the reply to Gerry, who said that he’d come to Portugal to explore the best way to cooperate with the authorities to ‘explore steps that weren’t taken yet’.

Detectives in the Algarve – The McCanns desisted of hiring agencies, but as far as CM has established, they now have a restricted group of people with a past that is linked to the police, willing to continue the investigation. The possibility of that team going to the Algarve is being evaluated.

Villa rent 7000 euros

A comment from a member of the 3 arguidos:

McCann is what they call a "freeloader."

He will save a tenner on not having a babysitting service but will only stay at the best hotels when it is from a fund to find his daughter.

He's the sort of man who would not hire a car for five weeks to search for his daughter, but then would hire one only to carry her body. The sort of man who ask for a double if you bought him a drink and in return he'd give you a half. The sort of man who would think of a student overdraft to compare how he felt to have a missing child. He is a freeloader. Some might say he is freeloading off the death of his child.

Madeleine, a yacht and the Yard connection

Martin Brunt

Sounds like the McCanns have given up all hope of any help from the Portuguese authorities in the continuing search for their daugher Madeleine.

Gerry McCann flies home today from Portugal after meeting his Lisbon lawyers and British consulate officials, but no cops.

Apparently, the family has a new team of private investigators which includes ex-Scotland Yard detectives and former spooks.

Intriguingly, I've been sent a port document which appears to show that a British Navy yacht was docked in the Algarve at the time Madeleine vanished in May, 2007.

Among those sailors listed on board is a name of a very senior Yard officer.

Of course, the yachtsman's recorded middle name is not the same as the top cop, but that hasn't stopped a frenzy of excitement among those Madeleine-watchers who continue to look for an establishment cover-up.

If you and other so-called journalists did your jobs, Mr Brunt, there wouldn't be a frenzy to find out the truth of what happened to Madeleine, would there? If you did your job you would know that it was the McMafia's who prevented the Portuguese police from searching for their daughter by their refusal to answer questions and attend the reconstruction. You would also know about Gordon Brown's involvement and how the government, Forensic Science Service, Home Office and British police prevented important documentation from reaching the Portuguese police.

Martin Brunt quote of the year:
"When most of us initially heard what had happened we all thought "chavvy family from some estate in Essex who weren't looking after their children properly" but the fact that these were two middle-aged, middle-income or, even high-income professionals, doctors, it did rather take on a different hue."

Gerry McCann: The McCircus rolls back into town

Return: One and a half year later

by: Tânia Laranjo/Sónia Trigueirão

Almost one and a half year after leaving Portugal in a hurry – 48 hours after having been made an arguido – Gerry McCann returned. He was at the English embassy yesterday, in the Estrela area, in Lisbon, to ask for help to restart the searches for his daughter.

Nevertheless, Gerry McCann didn’t contest the archiving of the process. He could have requested the opening of the instruction phase – given the fact he had a legitimate interest – which he didn’t do within the legal deadline. The result: in terms of the process, it’s practically impossible for the authorities to restart the searches into the little girl’s whereabouts, unless Maddie’s parents supply a new solid element concerning what really happened to the child.

“Gerry wanted to know about the possibilities to continue to search for his daughter. His purpose is for the search not to stop, no matter what the process issues are. He asked the ambassador for help in the sense of understanding what mechanisms are at his disposal to continue to search for his daughter”, Rogério Alves told CM – the lawyer who accompanied Madeleine’s father to the embassy yesterday.

Clarence Mitchell, the couple’s spokesman, also confirmed that the McCanns’ intention is to find the child. “Gerry and Kate continue to search for Madeleine and they don’t intend to give up. This visit to Portugal is part of the strategy that we have to continue that search. I assert that during this visit, Gerry had no encounter with policemen, the Attorney General or members of the government. He just went to meet his lawyer.”

Details

Events in Portugal – The McCanns are preparing a series of events for the media, mainly the Portuguese, not to forget about Madeleine. Clarence Mitchell didn’t explain exactly what initiatives are foreseen.

Fund with money – Clarence Mitchell asserts that the fund to search the child continues to have money. “We have 800 thousand pounds, which is 880.170,36 euros. We don’t have money problems. People continue to help us”, he stated.

“It’s painful to return to Praia da Luz”: Gerald Patrick McCann, Madeleine’s father

Correio da Manhã – What did you come to do in Portugal?

Gerry McCann – I came exclusively to speak with my lawyers to define strategies and to analyse other possibilities to continue to search for Madeleine.

- Is this a short visit? Did you come alone?

- It’s a short visit, but I’m counting on making others. I arrived this morning [yesterday] and I leave tomorrow morning [today]. I didn’t come alone. I came with an English lawyer who has been working with Rogério Alves in the process.

- Do you plan to visit the Algarve, Praia da Luz?

- Maybe. I don’t know, it’s painful to think about that.

- Are you preparing anything for Madeleine’s birthday, in May, which coincides with the two years of her disappearance?

- We are preparing many things, but I hope to find my daughter before that date arrives.

- Have you read the process yet?

- No. It’s too long. There are approximately ten thousand pages. We are finishing the translation. I hope to read everything until February. Kate has also been helping with that analysis and she reads as it gets translated.

- What exactly are you looking for?

- We are going to analyse if in fact everything was done to find Madeleine. If the authorities acted correctly. And, more importantly, to find out if there is any lead that we can explore.

Book in England before summer

The book by Gonçalo Amaral, the former PJ coordinator who directed the investigations into the little girl’s disappearance, should be launched in the English market before the summer. “We already have a reliable translation of the book into English. We are negotiating with several editors, whose lawyers are analysing the book. The couple’s spokesman has been threatening with lawsuits since the beginning, but they’ve had plenty of time to read ‘The Truth of the Lie’. If there was anything that would give them a motive to sue us, I believe they would have done that by now”, CM was told by Mário Sena Lopes, who guaranteed that the English version will be identical to the one that was sold in our country. “The book reaches the same conclusions that the investigators did. Are they going to sue the investigators over that? The book is based on an investigation. We are not going to authorise any change that alters the fundamental contents of the book.”

Notes

Threat: English book. Clarence Mitchell threatens to sue Gonçalo Amaral. “if he publishes the book in England he’d better be aware that the British legislation is different from the Portuguese”, he says.

Hotel: D. Pedro Palace. Gerry McCann was lodged at the D. Pedro Palace, in Amoreiras, a hotel that is relatively close to lawyer Rogério Alves’ office.

Kate: Stayed with the children. Gerry guarantees that Kate stayed with their children Sean and Amelie, and therefore didn’t accompany him in the return to Portugal. “She’s trying to deal with all of this”, he stated.

Gerry McCann back in Portugal today - 13 Jan 09

Missing Madeleine McCann's father flew back to Portugal for the first time since returning to the UK.

Gerry McCann made the journey to meet his Portuguese lawyers to discuss what more could done to help find his missing daughter, family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said.

It is understood that Mr McCann's wife Kate did not travel with him, and that he will not see any Portuguese officials during his short trip.

Mr Mitchell said: "I can confirm that Gerry McCann returned to Portugal for a brief visit to meet his lawyers to see what more can be done to help find his daughter."

Mr McCann, 40, from Rothley, Leicestershire, flew into Faro Airport in the Algarve and was met by British officials. He then travelled to Lisbon for talks with his legal team, led by Rogerio Alves.

Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment in the Algarve village of Praia da Luz on May 3 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby.

Despite a massive police operation and huge publicity worldwide, she has not been found. Four months after she disappeared, Portuguese police made both Mr and Mrs McCann "arguidos", or formal suspects, in the case.

Two days later, on September 9 2007, they returned to Britain with their two other children, twins Sean and Amelie.

Last July the Portuguese attorney-general shelved the investigation and lifted the arguido status of Mr and Mrs McCann.

The couple insist they will continue to believe Madeleine is still alive until presented with firm evidence to the contrary, and have vowed to keep looking for her for as long as it takes.

Is Dr Gerry McCann fit to continue to practice working as a doctor?

"I cannot think about anything else at the moment other than finding Madeleine. I do not know if I would be safe to go back and practise as a doctor at the moment." Gerry McCann, 11 June 2007

Written by 'TTW4' on The 3 Arguidos forum.

We all trust our doctors (well most of us) to tell us the truth.
'Do no harm' this is one on the tennents of the medical profession. Someone is ill, the doctor establishes the cause of the illness, tells the patient, and then uses his or her best skill and judgement to diagnose a remedy for the condition.
Doctors are trained to do this and we inherently rely upon their judgement.
They spend 7 long years honing their skills for just such an event. The GPs surgery is a daily battleground against disease and illness of one sort or another. When in hospital we again rely on yet more skilled and trained physicians to carry out even more tests and further diagnosis.
We are entirely reliant for our well being upon the ability of such highly trained and professional staff. The decisions they make in the course of their daily lives can concern real life or death situations. One wrong move one careless prognosis and it's all over. The doctors decision making process has to be of the highest calibre that is why we as patients in the NHS naturally demand such high standards. Our taxes have paid for their training and we have endowed our doctors with our trust. That trust demands they employ all of their talents both, learnt and acquired to fulfil their professional obligations under licence within society.
Should things go awry then there is a structure in place to question the competence of the professional involved. I make no case either for or against such arbitration and or it's effectiveness, I only propose that society acknowledges that administering lethal medication or process demands some sort of regulation. Someone could get hurt.
The Doctors McCann and Healy are both registered with the necessary authorities to practice in accordance with the current guidelines, therefore it can be said they have accepted societys bargain and seek in their professional lives to make the very best of decisions concerning their patients care.

30 April 2008 Kate Healy says she sees Madeleine in 'visions', she later revealed in her visions she sees Maddy as, "like a little buddy to me."(*1 Source)
For the time being Dr. Kate Healy is not practicing as a GP. This is a well thought our and carefully considered strategy on the part of her and her familys. The trauma she has suffered during the course of the last 2 years with the loss of her daughter and under such tragic circumstances demands nothing less. Healys decision making process must be impaired, and it is a well known fact, and understood amongst professionals and those in the social services community, that psychiatric scarring can become apparent in subjects, if not immediately then sometimes years after such an horrific event.
The consequence of this is, and Kate Healy knows I am sure, that it is extremely unlikely that she will ever sit inside a GPs surgery again as a practicing doctor. In making this decision she has no doubt consulted with professional councillors and psychologists who will have offered the very best and most considered of opinions as to whether or not Kate Healys state of mind is truly fit to practice medicine again. On balance Kate Healy is to be applauded for her consideration of her patients well being.

On the other hand Dr. Gerald McCann sees his decision making process as unimpaired. I say this because despite having suffered the exact same trauma and psychological upset as his wife he returned to work some 6 months after the loss of his daughter apparently suffering no ill after effects.
Having been made a suspect in the disappearance of his daughter did not appear to present any kind of psychological upset to him in the slightest. A remarkable feat by anyones reckoning, if you can really call that sort of mental remoteness and isolation remarkable at all for a normal human being.
As a consultant in his field (Cardiovascular Medicine) I understand his patient contact is limited, and that surely comes as some relief, but he is still making decisions concerning patients who are referred to him. He still has to determine and interpret data, scans and propose a course or assess a course od treatment. This requires an unimpaired decision making process, something Dr. Gerald McCann claims to have, and has seemingly demonstrated in spades.

01.11.07 The ability to walk through the door to your place of work and receive a pat on the back from a colleague, does not of it's own accord, I am sorry to say, automatically mean that you are a fit and proper person to practice medicine.
Was Gerald McCann totally unaffected? Psychologically Dr.Gerald McCann was affected and he admitted some of his darkest thoughts here:
"You're in the middle of a horror movie really, a nightmare".
"Pressure such as I've never felt before".
"You're under attack in one way or another".
"The speculation takes you to the worst places and the worst place would have been being charged, potentially being put in jail, certainly being detained to face charges that could have taken years to materialise, being separated from Sean and Amelie."
It seems he was affected and in much the same way as his wife.

Leaving Portugal Dr. Gerald McCann considers his future in the UK, and how his actions so shortly before, on the 30 of July 2007 belied his confused and irrational thinking. Amongst other things it was noted that:
'Gerald McCann insisted on constantly delivering to Ricardo Paiva, letters and e-mails that he received and selected. Most of them from psychics and mediums, and that in general held no credible information about the whereabouts of Madeleine and of her alleged abductor'.(* Note 1)
To put selected communications from psychics and internet mediums in front of the Portuguese investigating authorities is plainly neither empirical, deductive, or rational thinking. Just 90 days later and Dr. Gearld McCann would start employing his 'logic' with real people in real situations.

30.04.08 Seen in the McCann house at Rothley. This is the mail sorting box system the doctors Kate and Gerald have instituted to cope with their incoming mail. The doctors for the best part of a year have been on the receiving end of numerous death threats, poison pen letters and bile of the most unimaginable kind. The sorting boxes mean they can at least try to compartmentalise these 'mental' assaults into some sort of manageable psychological onslaught.
The hope is, no doubt, they will by these actions then be able to mentally deal with the outpouring of hate they have stirred up in the hearts and minds of the British public. To be on the receiving end of such vitriol and abuse must pay a heavy price, and none more so than on the minds of the Doctors Kate and Gerald McCann.
Perhaps because Kate McCann is a woman she more readily and easily seems to demonstrate a more complete understanding of her abilities and state of mind. Gerald McCann, as a man, seems more ready to suffer denial and exclusion as his mental remedy, for his discomfort. The fact that a doctor is walking through the doors of a hospital in this country to administer advice and opinion, of the most sensitive kind, to patients under his care, when he himself is the subject of so much trauma, uncertainty and abuse must surely call into question that doctors ability to perform.
UHL as Dr. Gerald McCanns employer will have to look long and hard to see whether or not Dr. Gerald McCanns true state of mind is an enhancement to cardiovascular patient care in Glenfield Hospital, or as some might think a hinderance.

Kate McCann talks to Steve Boggan

Madeleine McCann, three, went missing from an apartment in a Portuguese holiday resort 99 days ago. Her mother Kate McCann tells Steve Boggan why she and her husband Gerry remain optimistic. (5min 06s)

August 10, 2007 1:57 PM

SB: Tomorrow, Madeleine Mccann will have been missing for 100 days. The 3-year old went missing from a holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of PdL as her parents, Kate and Gerry, dined with friends nearby. Kate McCann told the Guardian’s Steve Boggan about the moment she returned to the flat and discovered that Madeleine wasn’t there.

KMcC: We were checking on the children several times an hour and erm ... I’d gone back to check them and it, you know, was erm quiet and erm .... I went into the room and er......... Madeleine wasn’t there......erm ...... you know .... and I just thought,,, can (inaudible) look and thinking she must be, she must be in her bed and er there was that horrible... panic and fear and erm... there are other things that I can’t..... describe to you because it’s part of the investigation but erm... I mean there was not , there was no shadow of doubt that Madeleine had been taken to me and that’s why the panic and the fear was so immediate and real and erm... it was awful, you know, and erm.... you know, I guess I felt I’d let her down, desperately sorry really erm ... that we weren’t there the minute she was taken...... you know and we from a kind of er.. panic and fear to that total feeling of helplessness .... and not knowing what to do... and erm ... it was just awful really.

SB: This week the Portuguese police were examining spots of blood in the apartment, but the McCanns remain optimistic

KMcC: Imean, in the first few days we erm thought that was the worst and it was just awful, I mean it was just the worst experience that I’ve ever...... erm .....now I guess (noise) you see I mean we’ve got more hope now than we did in those first few days and erm... don’t get me wrong, we’re not blinkered and er...... obviously we still have those dark thoughts but they’re not helpful, you know, they’re not helping us and they’re not helping Madeleine.... and sometimes you’ve just got to blank them out. I guess, if we’re honest, ...... you know if Madeleine wasn’t alive now then we’d rather know now....... but then, you know, .....we don’t know that, you know and we’re very .... hopeful, in fact we’re probably, as I say, more hopeful than we were at the beginning. And what we don’t want to do is look back and regret not having done absolutely everything we can.

SB: Some people in PdL want the McCanns to leave. They say their continued presence there is bad for the town’s image, but Kate McCann told the Guardian, they’re staying put.

KMcC: ...(I mean) er it’s a difficult one and I think you’ll just know when the time’s right and it’s not right for me at the moment, erm.... I do feel closer to Madeleine here, close to the investigation. We don’t know where Madeleine is, you know, and there’s no reason to say that she’s close to here than she is to the UK but she’s (inaud).. it’s just a feeling I have at the moment. There are day’s when you think to yourself, how can I manage and to function. ....and’ here people from outside looking in, cos I know I’ve done it myself in the past when there’s been sort of similar cases or things that happen to children, you think how does anybody cope with that. And you can’t understand how anyone can function, certainly like the first 4 days we didn’t, you know.... didn’t eat, didn’t sleep and er you know ... your body comes back to normal a little bit..... you have to, you have to keep going, so, ...... I mean, er , as soon as I wake up I’m aware Madeleine isn’t there, you know, and I usually and know I say a very quick prayer to meself before I get up and ... obviously we’ve got Sean and Amelie so erm.. they get up fairly early and it’s a case you’ve got to make things as normal as possible for them, you know, and they need love and protecting parents as well.

SB: Relations between the McCanns and the Portuguese media have deteriorated in recent days, with hostile lines of speculation about the couple.

KMcC: I mean, criticism’s very hard, you know and er you know it’s very hurtful. It’s totally unhelpful. Erm ....... oh it’s, you know, considering what we’re going through already and how awful it is... it does seem very cruel but, I mean, when I’m kind of thinking logically, I think you know I know that this is a small group of people, you know. Huge majority of the public are behind us and they’ve been fantastic and.....I’m so so grateful for everyone that’s come up and wished us well. You know, I’ve had thousands of letters from other mums and stuff and er every line of every letter they’ve written has helped us, it’s helped us get through another day. You know you’ve got to remember who’s committing the crime here, it’s er it’s that person that was watching us and broke in and took Madeleine out of the bed.

Comment by Paulo Sargento, expert psychologist and university professor:

Maddie, the Candidate Gonçalo Amaral, the ambivalence of some political cowards and the – inevitable – feast of the British tabloids

"Yesterday, on the 11th of January, the ‘News of the World’ presented a very small, but incisive article with the following title: “Maddie Cop Vote”. This title was placed beneath a photograph of Dr Gonçalo Amaral where he is still wearing a moustache and with his necktie somewhat misaligned by the open collar of his shirt (as a matter of fact, this type of photograph is not systematically used by the British media per chance; Gonçalo Amaral has photographs that are more flattering to his image but are never used). The news refers that “the shamed cop is running for Mayor after being booted out of the force”. Further ahead, it is subtly recalled that “the Portuguese officer caused outrage when he made Kate and Gerry McCann suspects in their daughter’s disappearance” and finalises with the sentence: “Right wing Amaral is now standing for election in the town of Olhão”.

Despite the fact that I understand the meaning of ‘tabloid’, I must say that what I have just summarised is absolutely shameful, premeditated, with a Portuguese hand (certainly from a non tabloid media with pseudo-intellectual aspirations and from characters whose known behavioural bizarreness anticipates their true motives), and, even worse, will be the first and the most simple of a predictable and massive offensive against the person of Gonçalo Amaral, which will increment its tone and its frequency from the second half of January onwards, with a lift, or even a full impulse from the Joana case. I’m even convinced of this. God willing, I’m mistaken."

"Thank you for the book. Which I have read with great interest. It is now in the hands of my colleagues who will all be reading it. We have been discussing your book this morning - it has certainly 'opened a few eyes and minds'!

I would like to ask you a few further questions about the book at some point - hope that will be in order?

What is clear about this whole sorry mess is that a lot of the general public and a the majority of the 'bread and butter' journalists have very little, or no idea, of the further details of this case.

The McCann/Mitchell spin has done its job and produced a mass of misinformation and resulted in a whiter than white image for the McCanns. In fact, sad as it may be, it has almost been the perfect spin campaign - would not be surprised if in years to come it is not studied by Marketing and PR students!

At the end of July 08 I had a conversation with a major news organisation Editor about the case and was told in no uncertain terms that:-

They are in the clear.

With regard to Snr Amaral I was told:-

We've not made specific references to his allegations and will continue to take that approach.

Your new book would certainly open the eyes of a good many people - if it becomes possible to get it into the wider domain. The question is how to do that?

Are the McCanns getting twitchy with you over the book or are they just keeping tight-lipped because they know they have, they think, every press outlet tied down and under their control?

I presume both you and Snr Amaral are wanting the McCanns to take the bait and go through with legal action?

Only when they stand up in Court will the Press then have to report in a fair and balanced way. My belief is that one organisation or one journalist with clout will break ranks. What you are doing will hopefully show the way and speed up the process."

Philomena McCann and the kicking off of the Phenomenal McScam

As it's Saturday - The Mccanns Match of the Day

The Mccanns moved fast. The abduction was out there in record time. Renwick and Aunty Philo got the ball rolling back in the UK. The Portuguese police after some kick off argybargy had been brought onside. Hill was distinctly offside and about to be sent off and Uncle Brian Kennedy was "in goal" (his words not mine according to the BBC) for the entire family. Uncle John was kicking his heels on the sidelines about to pitch in.

Aunty Philo was to be seen cavorting and cajoling with the crowds at Celtic Park handing out posters to the good footballing folk, and Alex Salmond even put in a guest appearence. The football wagontrain was well and truely started. Up and down the land teams would compete to make the biggest fools of themselves. Shirts were worn, huge screens illuminated with Madeleines face, and balloons were lofted wherever the sport was played. This was usually followed by cummlative hours of 'minutes silences' and the wearing of rubber bands, and enough T shirts to clothe a small army.Within nine days and it seemed as if this entire football 'crazy' nation was looking out for the "wee Madeleine Mccann" who at any minute might be spotted, on a terrace, or perhaps being driven off at high speed in the back of a fans car.

May 2007 was a strange time for football in the UK. On the 14th Everton joined in the extravaganza and donned the neccessary kit to kick a football about in the north of England. So much happened and so quickly in the world of football it seemed that at one stage, offering a public prayer to the Mccanns and their abducted child was the only way to enjoy a Sunday kickabout down at the local park. We really had gone football crazy and in such a unified and orchestrated manner.

How had all this teamwork come about and why were we all presuming that Madeleine would be found at Filbert Street or Hampden Park? Because we were told to look there? Or was there perhaps something else being orchestrated here, and was that the symphony of confusion?

The football symphony as a diversion had to kick in immediately for it to be truely effective. The plan was simple it was to ensure that the Mccanns had public sympathy, this would procure for the Mccanns an unassailable position in the eyes of the public at large - that of victim. Victim of a crime, and victim of a callous and disbelieveing police force. the logisc was simple, I can almost hear TeamMccann chanting in unison at the Portuguese,"They all believe us because we told them! So must YOU!" It was pure emotion and nothing else. After all the Mccanns could not rely on the more traditional forms of persuasion such as evidence or deduction, neither of these would exonnerate the parents and allow the beautiful game to contine, well leastaways not the game the Mccanns wanted to play.

It worked, within days the last vestiges of dissent within the press were stymied and public sympatthy was offered in bucketloads. The Mccanns with their campaign adviser, whom they so proudly touted, had done it. Aunty Philo had been given the ball and she wasn't about to be tackled.

On the 16th of May 2007 John Mccann turned up at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester. This appearence was not, as you might think, to thank the footballing community for it's unforgettable and unmissable campaign to date, but rather to capitalise in the most cynical and stonehearted way. Uncle John was there to launch a campaign to raise money for the Mccanns. The publics shock and grief at their loss wasn't enough for the Mccanns, they wanted money, lots of it, and they wanted it now.

The Mccanns cashing in on the publics gullibility in this way, I find quite distressing. The Mccanns hard nosed financial acumen and double dealing might go down well in the boardroom of some of the more shady local bussinesses, but it had no place on parade, in public, at the centre of the emotional maelstrom of parents perceived to be in a dire emotional strait. Two plus two makes four, and that at the end of the day was the true extent of the Mccanns concern for Madeleine.

The stonehearted Uncle John pulled no punches. He expected to be taken seriously and he expected the football community to take him seriously as well.

19th May 2007 and the football world was all abuzz with all things Mccann. The money was flooding in and the Mccanns now had their unassailable public grief from which they could blackmail the Protuguese Police. This picture was taken at Glasgow, the Mccanns home town. The Football Protocol was going down a storm, and this was to be seen nowhere less so than in Leicester, the Mccanns adopted home town.

25th May 2007 Martin Allen the then new and impressionable manager of Leicester City FC wearing that all important rubber band. The rubber band demonstrates his alliegence to the Mccanns and their mantra that's quite apparent, but what of that strange arm gesture, what does that signify or say about the man or his beliefs?

The arm gesture is called the Lions Paw and I suppose you've guessed it by now but I'll have to tell you anyway I've come this far, yes it's another of those crazy Masonic signs.

This sign is used to identify the bearer as a follower of the 'Craft' and there are indications that it might have spiritulistic overtones. I haven't gone there as a mans personnal spiritual belief is his own affair and not something I care not to investigate. The Craft is a different matter altogether. That affects us all. It is well known that the clandestine goings on behind the closed doors of the Lodges has it's root set firmly in the establishement that governs our counrty (one way or another).

The rest of this fascinating and well researched post can be read here: As it's Saturday - The Mccanns Match of the Day

But he ends with this comment:

I feel that it is the responsibility of all of us, who have been in some way touched by the plight of Madeleine, to publicise and inform society of the manner in which we have all been hoodwinked and conned by the Mccanns. The BBC should be on notice their prejudical reporting and disfigurement of the news concerning the Mccanns was a disgrace and will not be tolerated by the British public. That fine tradition established with that mosty noble of aims, "Nation Shall Speak Peace Unto Nation" somehow today seems to exclude the possibility that Truth might also be a component of any negotiations. If truth is not present, that is because it really was the first casualty.
