Madeleine McCann and the 48 police questions her mother refused to answer to help find her

Statement from The Madeleine Foundation:

In order to highlight a key aspect of the Madeleine McCann case, namely Dr Kate McCann's refusal to answer any one of 48 questions put to her by the Portuguese Police on 7 September 2007, The Madeleine Foundation has just published (13 July) a special YouTube video on the subject.

Our Secretary, Tony Bennett, reads out each of the 48 questions, with the text of those questions being clearly shown across the screen as he speaks. Already many poeple have told us of the impact on them of hearing and seeing these questions. It has led them to think again about these questions and ponder on why Dr McCann refused to answer any of them. In just under 10 minutes' viewing, the key issues in this case are highlighted. Please pass this message on so that as many people as possible become better informed about the issues surrounding Madeleine McCann's mysterious disappearance.

Already the video has been seen by nearly 1,000 people in just its first two days.

You can catch up with all that we're doing, and read many articles about the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, on our website:

From the Committee of The Madeleine Foundation, 15 July 2010

Update: The youtube video seems to have been carter-rucked but you can read the 48 questions here in the Daily Mail or see the video on this blog where you can also read the shocking witness statements given to the Portuguese police, by two British doctors, that suggests there was a child molestor within the group of friends:

Statement from the Madeleine Foundation - 16 July:

Late yesterday we received an e-mail from Steve Loughrey at Carter Ruck demanding that our 48 question U-tube video be pulled immediately on the grounds that it was libelous. The Madeleine Foundation absolutely denies that the U-tube video is libelous. On the contrary, it is a factual account of the exact 48 questions that Dr. Kate McCann refused to answer. In addition, in the introduction to the video we told viewers the 2 reasons given by the McCanns for her refusing to answer the questions, (1. Her solicitor advising her of her right to remain silent, and 2. her belief that the police were suspecting her instead of looking for Madeleine. The Madeleine Foundation has attempted to contact U-tube at numerous times in the past 24 hours but all attempts have failed so far. There are other outlets for videos and we will be seeking to upload our video elsewhere as soon as we can.

McCann's lawyers, Carter Ruck also seem to be passing information to internet stalker/ex policeman 'muratfan'/Ian West of Norfolk, who refers to solicitors at Carter Ruck as his "best mates".

The Madeleine Foundation replies to Carter Ruck here where mention is made of 'muratfan' reading the letter from Carter Ruck.

And members of the general public voice their opinion here, and here

And, of course, here:

Jez Wilkins and Bridget O’Donnell: The Hoax

The journalist and the film maker: "They walked past the press, sniffer dogs, police to get to the shops. But they didn't get involved. They didn't help. They just watched."

By Ironside

The stage was set for the play to begin; everyone knew their part and settled comfortably into their role.

There was no time for a dry run, it was ‘ACTION’ when suddenly, onto the set strolled an extra not cast in the play. In the movies, the director would shout ‘CUT’ and the actors would be able to do another take.

Shortly after 9 pm May 3rd, Jez Wilkins, the famous TV Director for his hoax show... had become a major player in the abduction of Madeleine McCann. Later, newspaper headlines would scream ‘Madeleine and the Silent Witness’ the man who would clear the McCanns.

When we look at the police statements, no one has come forward to say they saw any of the group walking around or near any apartments on any other night.

Wilkins, did see Tanner May 3rd, but much earlier in the evening, he remembers she wore a purple dress and was standing outside her apartment. If Tanner saw Wilkins she has never said so.

Tanner I believe did see Wilkins earlier; this would be the reason why she explained her mode of dress... cut off trousers and flip flops...

Gerry McCann was ONLY seen the evening of May 3rd leaving OR returning to his apartment by someone who knew him. The young Irish girl also saw McCann and Wilkins talking together... no one has denied that this meeting did take place.

The problem for McCann is that this messed up his well thought out plan. The timing of Tanner seeing Wilkins, McCann and the abductor all at around 9.15 or 9.20 pm means if, as McCann claims, he had just checked his children and all was well the abduction took all of four minutes and while he and Jez were standing outside the apartment.

This of course is impossible, but McCann needed to explain why he was there to Jez, checking his children and telling him if he had not been with a group they would not have left the children alone, the seed was planted, the children alone left a window of opportunity for an abduction. Wilkins later had a knock on his door not to ask for help but to inform him McCanns child had been abducted.

Tanner gave McCann an alibi by saying she saw him and the abductor at the same time. The Smith Sighting, if anyone later would think they recognized McCann, was now covered.

Now, let’s go back and re-set the stage. Removed from the play Wilkins, the extra, where does this leave us and what do we have?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing, a night like any other, no one saw anything because there was nothing to see.

The plan would have been so simple, the McCanns would have returned to the apartment after dinner and drinks, (drinks paid for by credit cards that they claim not to have had.).... at a much later time, their usual 11.30 or 12.00 pm. The simulated abduction planned to take place at just before 10.00 pm would leave more than ample time to play on “Neglect”.

Totally agree. The wilkins know what hapenned to Madeleine and where she was concealed. They are part of the gang and the cover-up. Bridget prove it when she claimed that the portuguese police show a wrong picture of Madeleine to her. By saying that she show us how stupid she is and how baddly informed about Portugal and the portuguese police she was. Few hours after Madeleine was reported missing, Madeleine picture crossed the world trough all portuguese on-line newspapers and trough the RTP international TV channels. In Portugal, the disapearence went into all the houses trough all the TV channels and attract the attention of all the portuguese. No way for the police involved in the search of the girl to be not informed or to mistake the pictures. Bridget had an agenda when she tried to pass an image of a fool police and of-course the Mccann's gang were behind that agenda.
This means, whatever hapenned to Madeleine was not an accident and will shock the society if was in the aknowledgement of the public.
Will be interesting to see, if available, what the wilkins have done and who they meet in PDL during their holidays. Have they meet the Mccann's before or be part of their night partys? I believe yes and this is why they need to be part of the cover-up- They are affraid of being involved in the saga, then, they must state in favour of an abduction. BUT IT IS EASY TO CATCH A LIAR.

Madeleine McCann: Theresa May or may not reopen Maddie case

Image from Joana Morais' blog

According to the Sunday Express Home Secretary Theresa May has asked to meet Kate and Gerry McCann, signalling she intends to tell them she will order a new investigation into their missing daughter Madeleine.

(Ian Lister also from the Home Office wrote to the Madeleine Foundation on 22 June stating that there is already an ongoing investigation which is why he won't answer FOI questions)

comments from Daily Mail

Mrs May wrote to the McCanns last week asking them to come to the Home Office in what is being described as a “positive step” by department officials.

A senior Home Office source said: “The Home Secretary has already exchanged letters with Kate and Gerry about the case and will be meeting them shortly to discuss how the investigation is being taken forward. It would not be appropriate to pre-empt that meeting or give details of the work.”

A new team of detectives, most likely from Scotland Yard, could soon get the mammoth task of raking over all files from Portuguese detectives, police in Leicestershire and private investigators.

Since taking office, Mrs May has taken a close interest in the case. Her predecessor, Labour’s Alan Johnson, last March ordered a costing of a review of evidence and the outline of how a new probe would work into finding out what happened to Madeleine, then three, of Rothley, Leics, who vanished from Praia da Luz on the Algarve in May 2007.

Sources say that Mrs May felt Mr Johnson made the right decision and the internal report is almost complete.

Mr Johnson acted after Jim Gamble, head of the Child Online and Protection Centre, wrote a report for the Home Office analysing police investigations here and in Portugal.

His report, which has not been released publicly, outlines how a new approach could produce new leads.
A few comments from a forum:

"Well ,Well,Well,

While the Country is facing stringent economic measures we can afford to spend many thousands of £"s on the McCann Case, trying to find leads that the Portugese and Leicester Police , Metodo 3, Edgar, etc couldn"t find. The McCanns should be paying for this, not the British Taxpayer."

"I've just read that George Osborne intends to cut 40% of public spending, including cutting Housing Benefit and making massive cuts in education. The McCanns have squandered around 3 million in donations as well as costing the Portuguese police a small fortune following up thousands of 'sightings'. We learn from Tony Bennett's communication with the Essex police that there is a special unit within CPS and now this!

I am going to retain the hope that this new venture into the murky depths of this case will focus on those involved from the start and not on pouring more energy and money into so-called 'sightings.' If this team is set up, they need to look very closely at what the various private detectives actually did and what they were paid. Metodo 3, for instance, whose detectives have been accused of paying witnesses, stealing cocaine and attempted murder."

"I thought that the only people who could "re-open" the case were the PJ."

The secretary of the Madeleine Foundation has, today, sent this email to the Home Office:

Sunday 4 July

Dear Home Secretary,

I have read in the Sunday Express that you have exchanged letters with the McCanns and hope to meet them. The Express article also says that you are likely to order a new Scotland Yard investigation in addition to other ongoing investigations into what really happened to Madeleine McCann.

Could you please let me know in writing whether any such re-investigation will actively pursue the line of enquiry mentioned in the interim and final reports of the Portuguese Police that Madeleine may have died in the McCanns' apartment and her body hidden?

Yours sincerely

Students for Madeleine McCann: McCanns want students' private and personal details

Support: Students for Madeleine

"We know many students travel over the summer, take gap-year travel and also go places off the beaten path. We are launching a new initiative for students to help in the search for Madeleine.

If you would like to help with this project, please send the information below to:"

Well done McCanns you've gone and done it again haven't you?

Now you want to enlist students to help with your 'project', which just happens to be your missing daughter, Madeleine - but first you want to know all kinds of details about these students, like what University or school they go to, what they're studying, what social networking sites they use (don't forget to read the Gaspar statements kids), or whether they're travelling this year and where they're going!

What gives the McCanns the right to ask students, paticularly schoolchildren, to divulge personal information before they can sign up to help find their daughter when they didn't even search for her themselves because it was too dark? Dave Edgar, their private detective, told the media ten months ago that Madeleine is being held captive in a secret lair in a lawless village in Praia da Luz. Have they even searched there yet? No.

I wonder if the students will have to buy their good quality wristbands and travel packs, which consists of 10 English posters, 2 luggage tags, 2 wallet cards and a car sticker, from their online Madeleine store which still bears the date 2006.

Madeleine Foundation Media Statement released by the Committee Friday 2 July, 8.30pm

Eight months after Essex Police began their investigation, police admit there was nothing in the allegations

On 4 November last year, Ms Butler, former Chairman of The Madeleine Foundation, a group founded to study the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and campaign on child welfare issues, was expelled from membership after she made a series of untrue and hostile statements about our work. Later that day, she visited Kent Police alleging that our Secretary Tony Bennett had committed serious fraud against The Madeleine Foundation. She was interviewed by Sgt. Ryder who dismissed her allegations as ‘malicious’.

Ms Butler then contacted Essex Police who, on a date as yet unknown, but on or before 10 November 2009, decided to mount an investigation, led initially by Detective Constable Kirsten Chissell. On 7 and 8 November respectively, the ‘Sun’ and the ‘People’ published Ms Butler’s claims with considerable prominence, enlarging them to include a claim that Tony had pocketed £90,000 in funds intended for the McCanns’ Fund to find Madeleine. The Press Complaints Commission is currently considering a complaint regarding the content of those two articles.

Yesterday, nearly eight months after they began their investigation, Essex Police announced that they had insufficient evidence of any fraud or deception whatsoever within The Madeleine Foundation and were therefore ending their investigation. This is a verbatim transcript of the voice message from Trevor Roe, Detective Chief Inspector, 9.03pm, 1 July 2010:

Good evening Mr Bennett, it’s just gone 9 o’clock on Thursday evening in the obviously… in the evening as I’ve just said. Erm, sorry, I’m on nights, erm, as Commander for Essex, so I’m just trying to give you a call because the CPS [Crown Prosecution Service] advice has come back and I’ll give you a message on the ’phone, but I’ll obviously talk to you in more detail during the day when I get back to day duties.

Erm, on both matters, the CPS have decided that there was insufficient evidence on which to consider the allegations of harassment against Miss Butler and insufficient evidence to consider there has been any fraud or deception regarding…in respect of the two - the two cheques that have been alleged to be fraud by yourself. That does now bring the criminal matters to a close. That’s the message I’m, erm, I’ll write you a letter setting out the findings and…Then I hope to speak to you in the next few days. ’Bye now.

Ms Butler in October 2010 began a campaign of the most vitriolic and malicious abuse of Tony Bennett for months, including dozens of entirely false and libellous claims. He asked the police to investigate those. Ms Butler was interviewed about these allegations at Harlow Police Station in March. The police has decided there is insufficient evidence to prosecute her for harassment.

Delays in the police investigation

It was always Tony’s case that there was never a shred of evidence against him. He maintains that these allegations should never have been investigated, still less take eight months to resolve. The only allegation appeared to be around two cheques. Tony provided receipts for those on 11 November last year, within less than a day of being asked for them. Because of major queries about Essex police actions in this matter, the Chief Executive of the Independent Police Complaints Commission, Jane Furniss, began an I.P.C.C. enquiry into the matter in March. That investigation is ongoing.

Involvement of CPS Headquarters in the case

Recently, Tony was told by D.I. Roe that his decision-making in the case was being curtailed by a special unit within C.P.S. headquarters to which all matters relating in any way to the Madeleine McCann case had to be referred. To us, that illustrates that the eight-month investigation into Tony which has produced no evidence of fraud or deception may have been politically motivated and orchestrated at a high level.

The current work of The Madeleine Foundation

On 7 November, the ‘Sun’ ended its article about The Madeleine Foundation with these words: “A source close to Gerry and Kate McCann said: ‘This foundation is now in meltdown. They can't wait to see the end of it’.” Contrary to the belief and hopes of the McCanns, the Foundation continues its work despite the temporary problems caused by Ms Butler’s behaviour*. During the past few months, we have published many in-depth analyses of the case on our website: We have also published a further book on the case: ‘The Madeleine McCann Case Files’, Volume 1’. Since that article we have successfully held three conferences to discuss what really happened to Madeleine.

Later this month we are holding a Goncalo Amaral Awareness Day to help raise money for Mr Amaral’s defence fund. Mr Amaral was removed from the investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance on 2 October 2007. He is now embroiled in three separate court actions against him. Two cases, based mainly on the evidence of Leonor Cipriano, now serving a lengthy jail sentence for murdering her own daughter, and her former partner Leandro da Silva, allege that he covered up the beating of prisoners. The third is the McCanns’ claim against him for £1 million damages. The downloadable leaflet we have published in his defence is availabe on our website.

Tony said today: “Clearly it’s been an ordeal and D.I. Roe’s message was relief. I am glad the I.P.C.C. is investigating why it took Essex Police 8 months to make this statement. I’m especially grateful to the many within and outside The Madeleine Foundation who never believed a word of Ms Butler’s allegations in the first place”.

[* NOTE: Ms Butler is claiming that she is currently walking 1,000 miles from Barcelona to Praia da Luz to raise funds for McMillan Cancer Relief, and to draw attention to Madeleine’s disappearance. She has so far raised £290.00 via the JustGiving site. However, evidence suggests that she is not actually doing this walk, although she is claiming through contacts that she is. We have no connection with her now whatsoever].

Word from Tony Bennett

Message from Debbie Butler: "Please support my walk as Gerry Mccann has not even acknowledged Macmillan cancer on his website and a lot of sponsorshop money went to his own company - detracting money from Macmillan - this is a good cause and we need to replace the money for Macmillan . thank you x. please donate to Macmillan Cancer support - this money needs replacing as Gerry Mccann chose to keep his own sponsor moey for his own private limited company - many people are disgusted by this. I will walk with my head held high - and will complete it - Gerry when will you do the same ??????????????"
