Police assigned as 'minders' to protect traffic wardens from abuse... but 17 month old Baby P left to fend for himself

Police officers are being hired as 'minders' to prevent traffic wardens being attacked on city streets, it was revealed today.

Council bosses are paying £56 an hour for police to protect staff on evening patrols in Sheffield.

A team of four wardens patrols the streets five nights a week, with a police officer on hand in case they are subjected to physical or verbal abuse.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: 'Sadly the parking attendants are subject on occasion to abuse, threats and violence from members of the public.

'A police presence helps to reduce these risks and allows the attendants to continue to exercise their duties.

So while the police are 'minding' adult traffic wardens.... babies like Baby P are left to fend for themselves when they are faced with physical abuse. Undoubtedly a police presence would have saved his life.

Maybe that's why the police are also too busy to look for Madeleine McCann?
